How is marriage between faiths viewed in Islam? Can a Muslim marry an Atheist, for example?

A Muslim man can marry a chaste, believing women who are Muslim, Christian or Jewish. A Muslim woman, however, can marry only a Muslim man. Muslims are not permitted to marry from other than these religions (Atheist, Buddhist, Hindu, etc.).
